A Way Out

PROTON TIER: GOLD

Description: A Way Out is an exclusively co-op adventure where you play the role of one of two prisoners making their daring escape from prison.

Status Check: Runs via Proton. Status: Gold.

TWEAKS & TRICKS:

  • Initial Launch Failure: The game crashes 3 seconds after launch (EA App and game splash). Solution: Force use of Proton version 7.0-6 prior to downloading/installing the game, then subsequently ensure that ‘force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool’ is unchecked.
  • Non-Stopping Controller Vibration: Xbox controllers vibrate continuously. Solution: Turn off and on the controller during gameplay.
  • EA App Persistence: The EA App does not close after ending the game. Solution: No solution provided by users.
  • Initial Launch Failure with Experimental/GE: Game is 100% unplayable with Proton Experimental or GE. Solution: Switch to ProtonGE9-26 (Install via ProtonUp-Qt).
  • EA App Requirement: The game installs and uses its EA App. Solution: Run the game under PROTON EXPERIMENTAL (ALL games requiring EA APP)

Verdict: A Way Out is a solid Gold-status title for Linux gamers, though initial setup requires specific Proton versions and possibly downgrading. The EA App integration can be cumbersome, but doesn’t appear to be game-breaking.
