Status Check
Counter-Strike 2 has a native Linux version. However, users consistently report performance and stability improvements by utilizing Gamescope.
TWEAKS & TRICKS
Sound Issue: Audio disappears after a few minutes. Solution: Add launch option -sdlaudiodriver=pulse
Full Screen Issues (4:3 stretch): Without launch options, the game cannot run in 4:3 stretch fullscreen. Solution: gamescope -W [Width] -H [Height] -r [Refresh Rate] -f --force-grab-cursor -- %command% (Replace [Width], [Height], and [Refresh Rate] with your desired values.)
Low FPS: If experiencing unusually low FPS (around 40), deleting the shadercache and restarting your system has always worked.
High Performance: Several users report higher FPS than on Windows with native execution. This can be achieved by deleting the shadercache and restarting your system.
4:3 Stretch Fullscreen with Gamescope: gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -w 1280 -h 960 -r 180 -S stretch -f --force-grab-cursor -- gamemoderun %command%
High Resolution Gamescope Configuration: gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 240 -f --force-grab-cursor -- %command%
XKB Configuration: SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulseaudio XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT=us,ru XKB_DEFAULT_OPTIONS=grp:caps_toggle,caps:none gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -w 1280 -h 960 -r 180 -S stretch -f --force-grab-cursor -- gamemoderun %command%
Gaming Mode Launch: To launch the game in gaming mode: gamemoderun %command%
libpango Crash: If the game crashes without any window opening and the journal shows a “libpango” error, install missing libraries.
Verdict
Counter-Strike 2 is a solid buy for Linux gamers. The native implementation performs well, but utilizing Gamescope can provide increased performance and resolve specific display issues. The active community provides ongoing tweaks and troubleshooting steps.
