TWEAKS & TRICKS

  • Frame Rate Drops & Stuttering: Frame rate drops and stuttering, especially on Nvidia GPUs. Solution: DXVK_ASYNC=1 DXVK_STATE_CACHE=1 DXVK_SHADER_PIPELINE_STATE=1 __GL_MaxFramesAllowed=1 %command%
  • Fullscreen Display Issues: The game doesn’t properly fill the screen in fullscreen mode using default Proton settings. Solution: Try different Proton versions to center the game correctly.
  • Limited FPS Cap: The game is capped at 120 FPS. Solution: Download and use a framerate unlock hook from Nexus Mods (https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/74?tab=files&file_id=6039), then launch with MANGOHUD=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xinput1_3=n,b" %command%. Within the game, press ~ and type t.maxfps [desired FPS] to set your desired framerate.
  • DX12 Stuttering and Lack of HDR: The game exhibits stuttering on DX12 and does not support HDR on DX11. Solution: No fix available.
  • Grainy Visuals and Low FPS in Intermissions: The game uses DRS and lacks upscaling, resulting in grainy visuals and poor performance during intermissions. Solution: No fix available.
  • Audio Issues: Audio crackling. Solution: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b"

Verdict: Despite some limitations such as the enforced 120 FPS cap and lack of HDR on DX11, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE offers a very solid experience for Linux gamers, particularly on AMD GPUs. The framerate cap can be bypassed and with the recommended launch options, performance issues can be mitigated. A definite buy for Linux gamers.
