PROTON TIER: GOLD

Red Dead Redemption 2 puts players in the role of Arthur Morgan and his gang as they navigate a life of crime and survival in the American West.

Status Check: Runs via Proton. Tier: Gold.

TWEAKS & TRICKS:

  • Crashing on Launch: Sometimes the game will crash after the loading splash screen. Try reverting all launch options and reinstalling the game.
  • Graphics Settings Reset After Update: Switching the graphics renderer to DX12 enables 1440p resolution. PROTON_USE_DX12=1 %command%
  • Performance Issues with DX12: DX12 can result in lag and choppiness. Use Vulkan instead. PROTON_USE_VULKAN=1 %command%
  • Low FPS with DLSS 4: Use Lossless Scaling for improved performance. Add the following launch options: PROTON_USE_LSFG_VK=1 lsfg-vk x2 33
  • HDR Issues: Requires tinkering with Gamescope and potentially a configuration file.
  • Audio Crackling: Add launch option -sdlaudiodriver=pulse

Verdict: A solid Gold tier experience for Linux gamers. While occasional tinkering might be necessary for HDR or specific performance optimizations, the game generally runs well with minimal configuration.
