Status Check: Runs flawlessly via Proton. ProtonDB Tier: Platinum.

TWEAKS & TRICKS:

  • Audio Issues: Audio crackling may occur. Solution: +sdlaudiodriver=pulse
  • Performance Degradation: Slight performance degradation may occur. This may be due to the Unreal Engine.
  • Crashes (Video Driver Reset): Crashes to desktop, reported as Kwin reporting video driver reset. Solution: Try GE-Proton (latest being 10.29).
  • Low FPS on Older Proton Versions: Proton 9.x does not work. Solution: Use Proton 10.x or later.
  • Low FPS on Low Settings: Max FPS reached on low settings was 30. Solution: Running at native resolution (1600x900) with low settings gives a maximum FPS of 30. Higher settings drastically reduce FPS (Medium ~10 FPS, High ~4 FPS).
  • Steam Overlay Performance: Disabling the Steam overlay might slightly improve performance.
  • Heroic Launcher Sound Fix: Sound issues can be resolved by launching the non-Steam version through Heroic Launcher and adding the launch option: sound=alsa.

Verdict: StarRupture is a great buy for Linux gamers. It runs flawlessly with Proton and offers significantly improved performance compared to Windows in some instances. The few identified issues have readily available, specific workarounds.
