  • Problem: The game crashes approximately 3 seconds after launch (EA App and game startup screen).

  • Solution: Turn the controller off and on again during gameplay.

  • Problem: The EA App does not close automatically at the end of the game.

  • Problem: Suboptimal performance or crashes with Proton Experimental or GE.

  • Solution: Use ProtonGE-9-26. Installation via ProtonUp-Qt:

    • Installation: Download and install GE-Proton9-26 via ProtonUp-Qt.
    • Activation: Restart Steam and select ProtonGE-9-26 in the game’s properties.
  • Problem: Excessive environment variables.

  • Solution: Remove excessively long environment variables that may be causing issues.

    • Command: for var in $(printenv | awk -F= 'length($2) > 2000 {print $1}'); do export $var=$(echo ${!var} | rev | cut -c 1-2000 | rev); done
  • Problem: Games requiring the EA App do not function under Proton.

  • Solution: Launch the game under PROTON EXPERIMENTAL.

4. Verdict: Recommended. Although requiring some Proton configuration for an optimal experience, A Way Out runs very well on Linux with a Gold status on ProtonDB. The installation of specific Proton versions via ProtonUp-Qt seems to be key to avoiding performance and crashing issues.
